CPM with Distinction
The Kansas Certified Public Manager® (CPM) Program represents a commitment to lifelong learning.
The CPM program certification is awarded for life, but successful graduates will seek to refresh and further develop the skills they honed during the program. We want to encourage CPM participants to make certification the starting point for life-long learning. Toward that end, we now offer opportunities for graduates to continue to develop professionally.
We have established a “CPM With Distinction” credential to recognize those graduates who continue to develop themselves professionally and make significant contributions to the advancement of public services. These contributions may occur via teaching, writing articles, mentoring/advising on projects, joining professional development organizations, and taking additional management/leadership-related training.
To support such continuing education, the Public Management Center will regularly offer courses designed specifically for CPM graduates to enhance skills in managing work, leading people and developing self. For a list of upcoming courses, click here.
CPM graduates interested in pursuing the CPM with Distinction credential should record their professional development activities including:
- Management and leadership training
- Mentoring/advising on projects
- Service in professional organizations
- Writing articles
Every three years we will ask interested CPM alumni to list the things they have done during that period to develop themselves and contribute to the advancement of public management. Program graduates who have invested 40 hours or more in professional development over three years will be designated Certified Public Managers with Distinction. They will receive a certificate suitable for framing to recognize their achievements in contributing to the strengthening of public management.
